Evaluation answers

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

As my key role in the group is being the Editor the first approach I took to making the trailer is I analysed our similar media texts which was Drag Me To Hell. Whilst analysing it I had a careful look at its narrative structure. I.e. having a look at where they kept longer clips and where they displayed certain parts of the film. Also as part of editing I had to be aware of any special effects used and also see where certain audio had been placed within the trailer. What I learnt from this analysis is that at the beginning of the Drag Me To Hell trailer there are longer clips with more fades whereas towards the end there are quicker cuts. In terms of audio there is more suttle audio which helps build up suspense whereas towards the end there are more screams and also more daunting music. Once we had interpreted this information I liased with the cameraman and the director and we worked out a structure to our trailer.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

When both my Ancillary texts and main product come together they create Synergy. This was created by each of my products being targeted out to a different social groups and also different aged target audience. For example my Magazine was aimed at the younger generation, targeting young men between the ages of 12 to 21. This would be sold around gaming shops as here you would mostly find men between these ages. My poster was targeting young me between the ages of 21 to 25. The poster would be placed on billboards and shops in the city centres and the underground.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

After getting back the results from the audience and interpreting them I found out that at some stages of the film had to be swapped around as they felt that once they had been swapped the film looked more original. Once we got the results in from the questionnaire we also found out that they would prefer the title fonts throughout the trailer to be black. Once I found this out I was able to make these changes and apply them to the film by keeping a black themed font through the trailer.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

As I am the Editor, the main technology I used was Adobe Premiere Elements 9.0. This was used when I had to edit the video and turn it into a trailer. It was also used to create the titles for the trailer. Also whilst planning everything for the trailer i.e. shooting times we would conference call on Skype between the group and discuss everything. Also for my poster and Magazine I used Adobe Photoshop as this is a advanced software and worked great for making these specific texts.
